    Types of Tattoos We Treat

    • A Tattoo is an indelible mark on the skin. Large particles of ink or dye are injected into the skin with a needle or tattooist’s gun.
    • The depth of the pigment varies but is typically between 0.5mm and 2.5mm into the dermis.
    • The amount of pigment also varies.
    • The Tattoo pigment becomes encapsulated by collagen and becomes inert to normal skin repair mechanisms.

    Types of Tattoos

    Professional Tattoos
    • They contain much more pigment and injected uniformly at a greater depth into the deeper layers of the skin.
    • Professional Tattoos use better quality ink.
    • Professional Tattoos contain several colours of ink and tend to be stacked up in layers for better colour, density and longer lasting.
    • More treatments are required for professional tattoos.
    • Professional tattoo treatments are carried out in a professional environment by a trained practitioner.
    Amateur Tattoos
    • Amateur Tattoos tend to be self-administered using a needle and often tend to be one colour ink (India ink).
    • Amateur Tattoos can be applied by someone at home using a needle and a bottle of India ink.
    • These Tattoos tend to lie in the upper layers of the skin and therefore easier to remove with Laser.
    • However, some amateur Tattoos are administered using a tattooist’s gun and will, therefore, be similar to professional tattoos in the amount and depth of pigment.
    Cosmetic Tattoos
    • This is also known as permanent Makeup, the application of pigments to the skin, resulting in soft shades of colour which imitate makeup.
    • Permanent makeup can also be used for medical reasons, such as restoring colour in the areola after breast removal surgery on cancer patients.
    • We can remove permanent makeup in all areas except eyeliner, the eye area is very delicate and sensitive and we do not advise removal on this area.

    Colours of Tattoos

    • The colour of the Tattoo is determined by the pigment used. Black Tattoos are normally made using a carbon-based ink (e.g. India ink or Carbon) whilst the use of coloured tattoos involve the use of metallic ions to give different colours.
    • At your consultation, we will consider all the above factors before confirming suitability, the number of treatment and end results.
