    How does Sunspots & Freckles removal work?

    • Photo-thermal energy delivered by the handpiece will gently heat up the upper layers of your skin and target the melanin pigment responsible for the colour of freckles and sun/age spots. Heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your skin cells to generate new collagen helping restore your skin to its natural appearance, fading the pigmented spots, blending the skin’s natural colors and making it smoother, vibrant and younger looking.
    • The light absorbed by the pigmented lesion is converted into heat destroying excess melanocytes. The freckles and sunspots will darken in colour, most times twice as dark as the original colour then it will exfoliate of the skin naturally within 7-10 days.

    Who is suitable for the treatment?

    • Anyone who suffers from sunspots/age spots/freckles.
    • The sunspot freckles need to be darker than the skin colour.
    • The treatment is better in high contrast situations.

    Who is not suitable for treatment?

    • Cancer
    • Pregnancy
    • Anyone dark skinned above a Skin Type 4.
    • Sun tan/use of sun beds and fake tan
    • Healing disorders such as those caused by Diabetes Mellitus (type 1) and Lupus
    • History of Keloid scarring
    • Recent use of Roaccutane (within the last 6 months)
    • Immune, lymphatic system disorders

     

    Consultation procedure

    • Prior to the treatment, you must first undergo a consultation where details about your medical history are obtained in order to confirm suitability. Before proceeding, you will be asked to sign a consent form and undergo a test patch.
    • The test patch will determine whether the treatment is responding on the pigment.

    What steps are involved in the treatment?

    • The treatment area is cleansed with a mild cleanser.
    • The Laser applicator is applied to each Sunspot/Freckle till the whole area has been treated.
    • The area is cooled with cool packs and aloe vera.
    • Finally, Sun protection is applied to the area.

    How long does the treatment take?

    • A typical treatment session is approximately 30 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated.

    How does the treatment feel?

    • Treatment is mildly uncomfortable but no anaesthesia is required. All of our patients tolerate the treatment very well.
    • You will experience a similar feeling to a sunburn after the treatment for 1-2 hours.

    How many treatments are required?

    • Depending on the number of sunspots/freckles and the severity of the condition, you may need 1-4 treatments once every 3 weeks.

    Are there any possible side effects?

    • There may be temporary redness and the lesions may appear worse immediately as they darken and form a micro crust before flaking away leaving the treated area without excess pigmentation. The crusting lasts for 7-10 days.
    • Slight swelling, redness and bumps, short term – less than 48 hours.
    • Most of the side effects are temporary and resolve themselves within a month.

    Is there any Aftercare/Homecare?

    • Once you have had Laser treatment for Sunspots/Freckles be sure to protect your skin with a sun protection cream on a daily basis.
    • You will be given an ointment to use on the treated area to protect the skin whilst it is crusting.
    • You can only use mineral makeup.
    • The skin will be healed within 10-14 days.
    • You will be given aftercare advice sheet which you must follow.
