    Skin Tags Removal FAQs

There are 2 options for the treatment of skin tag removal:

    • Electro Surgery
    • Cryosurgery.
    Advanced Electrolysis
    • The procedure consists of cauterising the skin tag using a tiny probe with an electric current.
    • This is a non-invasive procedure which will give you immediate results without leaving any permanent scarring.
    • Treating skin tags with electrosurgery is a good way of ensuring that tags will not reappear. Also less risk of scarring means it’s the best treatment option for the face.
    Cryosurgery
    • Skin tags can also be eliminated using liquid nitrogen. The liquid nitrogen is cold, it freezes the skin tag, killing the cells within the skin tag and blocking the blood supply to the area causing it to eventually drop off.
    • You might develop soreness in the area for a couple of days after the treatment and you may develop a blister therefore cryosurgery is best suited for skin tags on the body that are too large to be treated by electro surgery.
    • Anyone who suffers from skin tags whether it’s just the one or multiple skin tags regardless of size anywhere on the body including the sensitive eyelids.

The following are contraindications and treatment can therefore not be carried out:

    • Hepatitis B (highly infectious, virus not easily destroyed)
    • Blood disorders (Haemophilia)
    • Heart conditions, especially when taking blood thinners such as warfarin.
    • High blood pressure (can only treat when controlled or lowered)
    • Skin diseases and allergies (fungus infections, broken skin, active eczema or psoriasis)
    • Diabetic (skin is slower to heal)
    • Very sensitive skin (sun burn)
    • Anti-coagulant drugs
    • Pregnancy (some disorders arise during pregnancy but can disappear after birth)
    • Keloid scarring (after injury there may be overgrowth of skin. Further keloids may develop after treatment).
    • Epilepsy (an epileptic fit could be brought on)
    • General ill health (this can affect skin healing time)
    • At your Free Consultation our practitioner will assess your lesions and check your suitability for the treatment.
    • If our Practitioner identifies any suspicious skin blemish they will recommend seeing a medical practitioner and will require a GP’s written consent prior to treatment.
    • Depending on the size of skin tags and area to be covered they will recommend you the cost and number of sessions required.
    • The area to be treated is cleansed with an alcohol cleanser and any local anaesthetic cream removed.
    • Each individual skin tag is cauterised using an eclectic current or nitrogen gas, this process is repeated until all the skin tags have been treated.
    • Witch hazel is applied to the treated skin tags to prevent post treatment infection.
    • The area is cooled and aloe vera gel applied to prevent any post burning sensation.
    • There will be a mild sensation similar to a stinging nettle on the skin when the skin tag is cauterised.
    • There might be residual stinging for a few minutes after treatment.
    • The area can be slightly itchy for about 10 minutes after the procedure.
    • To alleviate any discomfort we use a local anaesthetic so the treatment should be pain free or very minimal pain in most cases.
    • Most of our clients tolerate the treatment very well.
    • A single session is enough to remove skin tags permanently. We offer a 20 minute session so multiple skin tags can be removed in one sitting. If you have a skin tags on only the cheekbones area 1 session may be sufficient.
    • However a full face of skin tags can take more than one session.
    • Session intervals will be two weeks to ensure that the areas treated have healed well.
    • You will be given an approximate number of sessions required at your Consultation.
    • The area will look like mosquito bites after treatment. Scabs will form and will be noticeable.
    • It can take up to 2 weeks for these scabs to fall off.
    • There will also be redness which will take a few days to completely reside.
    • Cryotherapy can cause blisters which will heal in 14 days.
    • There is a risk of minimal scarring, not as much as the initial skin tag.
    • You will be advised to use certain after care products to aid quicker skin healing.
    • Please not that you can use mineral make up or Blemish Balm to conceal the skin whilst healing.
    • No there is no evidence to suggest that removing one skin tag can cause more to grow, if you have skin tags we advice you get them treated.
    • The aftercare procedure will be discussed at your consultation. Following the aftercare advice is crucial to avoid damage to the area and allow the skin to heal without complications.
    • The healing process starts immediately, but the time of complete healing varies. Normally takes a minimum of 2-3 weeks for complete healing of the skin.
    • On completion of the treatment the area should be kept cool, a cold compress can be applied. Witch hazel should be applied to avoid infection. The areas should be left alone to ensure the natural healing of the skin. If the area feels dry or tender some cortisone cream can be applied.
    • Scabs will form over the next 48 hours and should be left dry until they drop off on their own (over the next 10 days). You must never pick the scabs or scarring will result.
    • You will be given an after care advice sheet to take home with you after completion of your treatment.
